The virtual meeting entitled “Precision Medicine in Paediatrics – Biotechnology and applications for development and health” took place online on the 28th -29th of September.
The event has been organised by the Institute of Biomedical Technologies (ITB) and Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation (IRIB) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR), Scientific Institute for Research, Hospitalization and Healthcare Medea and CVBF as Coordinator of the European Paediatric Translational Research Infrastructure (EPTRI).
The meeting has been the opportunity to discuss about the use of the enabling technologies and their applications in the paediatric field with a particular focus on the neurodevelopmental disorders, paediatric pulmonology and neuropsychiatric diseases. The discussion covered several aspects from the management of the samples, including the collection of samples and their handling and storage, to the omics technologies that allow the identification of molecular profiles (big data), greatly increasing the precision in the characterization of physio-pathological states. Moreover, innovative drug delivery systems, more suitable for the paediatric population, were presented.
The event was held in collaboration with Univerlecco, CNR-BiOmics ELIXIR (European life-sciences Infrastructure for biological Information) and the Italian National Node of EPTRI.
The event was free of charge and held in Italian.
