The administration of nucleic acid’s drugs guaranteed to open the frontiers to a more efficacious treatment of diseases and to the prevention through the stimulation of the immune memory with vaccines, providing cells with the instructions needed to produce viral proteins and stimulate the immune answer. The development of these drugs makes possible to overcome the pharmacokinetic issues related to biodistribution and facilitate the interaction with target cells. The paediatric population represents one of the main beneficiaries of this field of innovation and pharmaceutical research.
In this framework, Department of Pharmacy – Drugs Science of the University of Bari “Aldo Moro” and Consorzio per Valutazioni Biologiche e Farmacologiche, on behalf of EPTRI, organised the webinar “Paediatric formulations carrying biotech drugs: special focus on Covid-19 vaccines” that took place virtually on the 1st of October 2021.
The formulation and ethics aspects of development, administration and authorisation of paediatric use of pharmaceutical nucleic acids products will be dealt with during the event. Moreover, a special focus was made on the status of development and authorisation of Covid-19 vaccines for paediatric use.
The speakers were:
- Prof. Nunzio Denora (Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology and Drug Regulation at the Department of Pharmacy –Drugs Science, University of Bari “Aldo Moro”)
- Dr. Viviana Giannuzzi (Head of the Research Department, Fondazione per la Ricerca Farmacologica Gianni Benzi Onlus).
It was addressed to researchers from academia and industries who deal with or are interested in formulations carrying biotech drugs and Covid-19 vaccines for paediatric use.
