The past 19th of June, the EU Health Coalition roundtable entitled “Accelerating clinical trials for a stronger, healthier Europe” was held at the University Foundation in Brussels, Belgium.
This plenary meeting, dedicated to exploring how the clinical trials ecosystem can be strengthened in Europe, counted with the participation of EU Health Coalition members, EU and national policymakers, and with patient advocates involved in the EU-X-CT initiative. The goal was to discuss the importance of a thriving clinical trials ecosystem for European patients, health systems and economies, and to put forward recommendations for Europe to regain its long-term edge in clinical research, especially in a complicated and ever evolving geopolitical context.
EPTRI was represented by our Coordinator, Dr. Donato Bonifazi, who presented innovative study designs and co-partnership models to accelerate clinical research in Europe by promoting innovative, patient centred trial methodologies, especially in areas with unmet medical needs such as in paediatrics and orphan diseases.
These innovative approaches to clinical studies offer a low-risk, well-regulated framework to test and refine new approaches, which is particularly valuable in paediatrics and rare diseases where traditional trial models face significant limitations.
