15th March (morning): Digital Health Technologies in Paediatric Research

Speakers

Pier Luigi Martelli

Pier Luigi Martelli got the degree and the PhD in Physics at the University of Bologna and he’s now Full Professor of Biochemistry/Bioinformatics at the same University. Since 1998 he has conducted his research in the field of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology in the Bologna Biocomputing Group. His research topics invole the use of methods out of machine-learning and artificial intelligence for the prediction of structural and functional features in proteins. He is the reference person of the Interoperability Platform of ELIXIR-IT and the BOD member of EPTRI.

Marco Viceconti

Marco Viceconti is a full professor of industrial bioengineering in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna. Prof Viceconti is an expert in in silico medicine and the use of predictive models to support clinical decision-making. He is one of the key figures in the in silico medicine international community: he founded the VPH Institute, an international non-profit organisation that coordinates this research community, and drove the creation of the Avicenna Alliance, representing the biomedical industry interests in this domain.

Rita Stagni

Rita Stagni (F), is Associate Professor of Biomechanical Engineering at DEI, University of Bologna, since 2017. Her research activity, mainly concerns application of measurement, modeling and control methods in movement analysis, in both physiological and assisted conditions, to quantitatively analyze the biomechanics and control of the musculoskeletal system. Recent research focused on the accurate real-time assessment of motor stability and balance, with particular reference to the maturation of motor control.

Chems Hachani

Chems Hachani is a seasoned clinical trial professional with over 10 years of experience in the medtech, pharma, and CRO industries. As the founder of Eclevar Medtech, a tech-enabled CRO, Chems Hachani spearheads innovation in clinical trials with MILO, a cutting-edge platform that accelerates patient identification through GenAI and enhances site effectiveness.

Claudio Carta

Claudio Carta is a senior researcher at the National Center for Rare Diseases (CNMR) at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) in Rome. He is the Local Technical Coordinator of ELIXIR Italy and co-lead of the rare disease community of Rare Diseases. He currently works on data management for RDs promoting the adoption of FAIR data principles in rare disease research. He is co-author of several scientific publications. His scientific curriculum includes several presentations and lectures in international congresses and courses. He is involved in different EU projects which aim to develop innovative data infrastructures for clinical research in rare diseases.

Sabato Mellone

Senior assistant professor, he reveived the Ph.D in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Bologna. His research activities are in the area of data and signal processing, medical informatics, ICT in clinical practice, wearable and embedded sensors, personal health systems design and validation, eHealth and mHealth applications. He is CTO of AlmaHealthDB infrastructure. He was a co-founder of mHealth Technologies s.r.l., spin-off company of the University of Bologna.

Luca Sangiorgi

Luca Sangiorgi, Director of Department of Rare Skeletal Disorders, is the coordinator of the Rare Diseases Centre of Rizzoli Ortopaedic Institute and responsible of 5 National Registers of Rare Disease (Multiple Hereditary Exostoses, Osteogenesis Imperfecta, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Li-Fraumeni, Ollier Disease and Maffucci Syndrome). He is the coordinator of BIOGEN, diagnostic and research genetic biobank, and of Telethon Network of Genetic Biobanks. Since March 2017, he is the coordinator ERN-BOND and currently the chair of the ERN Coordinators Group. Since January 2024 id the delegated for the competent authority for the joint action JARDIN.
