Eight webinar on Digital Technologies for Children and Young People (Adolescents)

The 8th webinar on Digital Technologies for Children and Young People (Adolescents) organized by the EPTRI Medical Devices Platform was held online on 5th November of 2024.

Participants had the chance to learn more about several applications and platforms developed to facilitate diagnostics and primary care for children with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Our first speaker was Paul Dimitri. Paul is the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) National Children’s Specialty Lead, the Director of the NIHR Children & Young People MedTech Co-operative, and the Clinical Director for the National Technology Innovation Transforming Child Health (TITCH) Network. He currently works at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust UK, as a Professor of Child Health, Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology and Director of Research & Innovation. Paul made a brief introduction of the state of the art in applications for young children (Adolescents) and presented specific study cases.

Our second speaker was Maria Luisa Lorusso. Maria Luisa is the Head of the Cognitive Psychology and Neuropsychology Unit at Scientific Institute “IRCCS E. Medea”, in Italy. She supervises the clinical activity of the Unit of Cognitive Psychology and Neuropsychology (neuropsychological assessment of preschool and school-age children) and coordination of the research activity in aetiology, prevention and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders (especially learning and language disorders) and the environmental factors affecting mental health. Maria Luisa presented an overview of three types of online platforms (MuLiMi, Tachidino and Seleggo) devoted to children with neurodevelopmental disorders, specifically to screening, to treatment, and to educational support.

Our final speaker was Silvia Busti Ceccarelli. Silvia presented two web platforms. The 1st platform was designed to facilitate services for primary care, specifically in the early detection of autism spectrum. The 2nd platform is related with providing integrated services to enhance diagnostic procedures for neurodevelopmental disorders as a telemedicine platform, since parents can fill in questionnaires before the consultation.
