EPTRI General Assembly & Scientific Meeting

We are happy to announce that our General Assembly and Scientific Meeting held on 18 and 19 of July in Bari, Italy and online were a success!

We counted with about 250 participants both in person and online that learned about EPTRI’s evolution story from a European founded project to the birth of a legal entity, registered as an international non-profit association (AISBL).

EPTRI mission was kept the same, creating an open science platform overcoming geographical, institutional, and financial boundaries to advance paediatric research and support the development of high-quality, safe medicines and technologies for children.

The meeting was an occasion for the participants to learn about EPTRI’s services, the Centralised Services provided by the Central Management Office (CMO) and the Integrated Services provided by thematic research platforms (TRPs).

Many presentations aim at sharing and discussing the latest news on the discovery and development of new medicines, devices and therapies for the paediatric population.

The 18th started with our General Assembly in which we discussed EPTRI’s AISBL structure, objectives and potential impact in the future. During this first session of the meeting were also highlighted EPTRI’s involvement and contribution to the review of the Paediatric regulation and policy making, followed by presentations on the unmet needs for paediatric drug development, the use of big data analytics in paediatric research, the importance of innovative study designs for small populations and the development of a multi-omic platform as a tool for collaborative translational research.

The afternoon session started with a presentation focused on our CMO and Centralised Services. Attendees had the chance to learn details about the numerous services related to the development of ATMPs for paediatrics, use of modelling and simulation tools and ethicsregulatory and HTA support in paediatric research.

The day finalized with the Integrated Services session where 2 of the 5 TRPs were described. Specifically, the Paediatric Biomarkers and Biosamples and the Developmental Pharmacology. For both TRPs there was a brief introduction of the platform, followed by the description of the various technologies and expertise offered as integrated services and selected presentations on TRP correlated studies.

The second day of the EPTRI scientific meeting, was focused on the remaining three TRPs. The first presentation focused on the Medicines Discovery platform, continued with discussions on Paediatric Medicines Formulations, and concluded with an exploration of the Medical Devices TRP.

During both days, posters from selected abstracts were available during the Meeting breaks for visualization and discussion.

The EPTRI scientific meeting took place alongside the 2024 iCAN Summit, providing participants with the chance to hear firsthand experiences from YPAG members. This convergence of events underscored the importance of listening to and addressing the needs and suggestions of young patients, emphasizing EPTRI’s patient-centric approach to advancing paediatric research.

Check the Agenda on our website and the presentations of the General Assembly and Scientific Meeting for both days!

We thank you for being part of this event and contributing to advance paediatric research!
